Questions people actually ask
Using this service
What does it cost to send a request?
Nothing. The form and the callback are free. If you hire the roofer, you pay them for the work, same as if you had found their name yourself.
How many roofers get my information?
One. The request goes to a single independent roofing company that covers your town. Your number is not sold, shared, or blasted to a list of contractors.
How fast does someone call back?
Usually the same business day. Storm weeks stretch that out, because every roofer in the metro is triaging leaks at once. If water is actively coming in, mark it urgent and say where it is showing.
Am I locked into the roofer who calls?
No. The call is a conversation: describe the roof, hear what they think it needs, take their number, decide. There is no fee and no obligation either direction.
Hiring a roofer in Oregon
How do I check if a roofer is legit?
Oregon requires roofers to carry a Construction Contractors Board license, a bond, and insurance, and the CCB number has to appear on their bids and ads. Look the number up free at ccb.state.or.us; you will see the license status and any complaint history. If a company cannot give you a number, walk away.
Should I get everything in writing?
Yes, and Oregon backs you up: contractors must provide a written contract on jobs over $2,000, and the CCB recommends one for every job. The contract should spell out the work, the price, and the payment schedule.
Does a reroof need a permit?
Sometimes. Oregon requires a building permit when all the old roofing comes off and all new sheathing goes on; like-for-like jobs are generally exempt. Portland adds its own triggers, including reroofs in Wildfire Zones and on townhouses. The roofer who calls knows your city's rule and files where it is required.

Are the black streaks on my roof a problem?
They are a warning sign. The streaks are an algae that feeds on the limestone filler in asphalt shingles, slowly stripping the protective granules. It looks cosmetic for years, then the roof ages out early. A roofer can tell you whether cleaning and treatment buys time or the roof is further gone than it looks.
Does moss actually hurt the roof?
Yes. Moss roots work under shingle edges and lift them, and the moss holds water against the surface for months. Portland insurers have non-renewed homeowners over visible moss, so it can cost you a policy before it costs you a leak.
Can roof work happen during the rainy season?
Repairs and tarping run year-round because leaks do not wait for August. Replacements get scheduled around forecast windows, and the roofer tells you honestly whether your job should wait for drier weather or can run now.
Is it worth getting the roof looked at if nothing is leaking?
If the roof is past about fifteen years, or you are buying or selling, yes. An inspection turns up the cheap fixes (boots, flashing, moss treatment) before they turn into the expensive kind.
